PVYO would like to congratulate all of the student musicians, teachers, coaches and conductors for presenting two wonderful Winter Concerts! Eight ensembles showcased over 300 student musicians who performed to packed houses! It was wonderful listening to all of the students perform so beautifully and seeing so many families and friends enjoying the concerts. Exciting Program Enhancements!
Dear PVYO Friends and Families, PVYO has had a fabulous start to the 2013 season! We experienced a record turnout during auditions and have enrolled our largest membership and most outstanding talent to date. At this point, we have limited openings for select instruments in the Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble. The Symphony has enrolled over 70 talented musicians and full instrumentation, with space to consider one additional string bass. The Philharmonia has over 60 musicians, also wonderfully staffed and instrumented, with a few vacancies remaining, specifically for horn, trombone, piccolo, oboe, string bass and percussion. […]
PVYO is excited to welcome Jennifer Van Petten to its artistic staff as a sectional coach. Ms. Van Petten brings a tremendous amount of experience and expertise to PVYO. She has established herself as one of the premier music educators and conductors in the region, and is well known for her charisma, enthusiasm, energy, and attention to musical detail. The Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra, (PVYO) is delighted to announce exciting enhancements to our great team of educators and conductors. First, we would like to welcome David Levin and Scott Herman to the PVYO team! Mr. Levin will be joining PVYO as Music Education Director, working with students throughout the entire PVYO organization. Mr. Levin recently stepped down as the Education Director and Philharmonic Conductor of the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras and is thrilled to be bringing his background and leadership to PVYO. For the 2013 – 2014 season, PVYO will offer a Concert Band for students in grades 6 through 9 in addition to our 9th through 12th grade PVYO Wind Ensemble. Robert Dahlin, long-time PVYO conductor and 2006 – 2007 Montgomery County Teacher of the Year will lead the ensemble in its inaugural year.
